CXWORX 101: Key Moves and Why You Should Try It

"CX what?" That's what I exactly said when I first heard of CXWORX. Don't worry about the name, worry about how you'll survive a 30-minute intense core workout. Yup, it's a freakin' core workout that will make you curse under your breath until the minute it's over. Haha!

I'm no fitness expert, in fact, I'm far from it but I love telling people to try the things that I do at the gym *cough Les Mills Body Combat* and see their reactions after doing it and I love it even more if they get hooked. I remember taking my sister to a combat class, her face after the class was priceless and she's like "Girl, that was torture." Hahaha


WHAT IS CXWORX?

According to the folks at Les Mills International, CXWORX is:
"Exercising muscles around the core, CXWORX provides the vital ingredient for a stronger body. A stronger core makes you better at all things you do, from everyday life to your favorite sports - it’s the glue that holds everything together."
CXWORX is a 30-minute core workout that hones the core muscles including the abdominal muscles, back muscles and the muscles around the pelvis.

What I love about the Les Mills programs is that it keeps me from getting bored and tired of the same old workout routine. It refreshes every three months with new choreography and chart-topping music and since it's a pre-choreographed workout, no matter where you go the CXWORX class will be similar in over 80 countries. Impressive, isn't it?

WHAT EQUIPMENTS ARE NEEDED FOR CXWORX?

It's not a weight-lifting class neither a cardio class. All you need is a resistance tube to add load to the muscles when doing movements, a small or medium plate for added resistance, a mat, and a towel and you're all set.

WHY YOU SHOULD TRY CXWORX?

Because, why the heck not?! hahaha, I believe that things can be done if you put your mind to it but I don't think every class is for you. One way to find out, give it a try or you'll never know. It's really challenging and can be a bit awkward at first, to be honest - your legs or butt in the air, but don't worry, we're all in the same boat everyone else is doing it.

BENEFITS

Core workouts are often neglected - yup, I'm guilty. Having strong core muscles is said to make it easier to do many physical activities, improves posture and back pain and prevents muscle injury. I suffer from low back pain every now and then and I can honestly say there's really an improvement.

WHAT TO EXPECT/TIPS ON YOUR FIRST CXWORX CLASS *based on my experience

  • Instructions will be given but you'll still get confused on how to set up the tube and that's okay. It is also sometimes hard to see everything from a lying down position but the key is to listen on the instructor's cues.
  • You don’t need to memorize all of these moves, because the instructor will coach you through them all.
  • There will be awkward eye contacts hahaha but don't mind your neighbor. Nobody's going to look at you since most people are busy fixing themselves and their forms.
  • It takes a while to get comfortable with the movements, so plan to try at least a few classes.
  • Expect the worse soreness in your entire trunk for a couple of days
  • Thirty minutes flies by so fast

CXWORX
 is the newest Les Mills program offered at Gold's Gym J Centre (first in the Philippines!) in addition to the old programs, Body Combat, Body Jam, and Body Pump. The program itself has only been around for a few years and it's grown its popularity over time. It's a perfect workout to pin on to the end of other Les Mills programs for an awesome full-body workout.
